700R4 for sale in Ohio
1992 700R4, 140K miles. Has stock 'verter, TV cable included, cast alluminum inspection cover, and I can provide the yolk if neded.
Came out of my '92 S-10 Blazer with the 4.3 engine. I owned this rig since 97 when it only had 60,000 miles. I have dropped the fluid and filter every year. The fluid is still red as it sits. Not really bright red, but plenty red though. (it was ready for another fluid/filter chainge when the truck died last month) Strong trans, never slipped once since I've owned it. It'll bark going into second no problem. This vehicle was never equipped with a hitch, and only towed another vehicle once since I owned it, and that was a short 5 mile drag. I will guarantee the condition of this tranny. The only signs of its age is very slight torque converter chatter when you accelerate while in lovk up before kicking down, and also some minor leaking from the seal at the yolk, and a couple spots on it were damp from even more minor leaks. I will not ship this, but I can deliver it up to 100 miles from Columbus Ohio. This will pretty much get me to the state line in any direction. $500. NEG. The wife says no trades (it's her tranny) but you can try and I'll run it by her. Please aswer in this thread and not in e-mail or instant messages. |

Hey Andy, will this tranny be a bolt on deal to a 350? I might be interested, pick up would not be a problem.

interested
hey there.. i have a buddy interested in the tranny... i will talk to him and get back to you.. do u have any pics???
|
Chevy_fatman has dibs being his reply was first...
I'll double check the torque converter tomorow. I have the tranny draining at the shop as we speak...I'll bring it home and compair the bolt patter on the verter to the TH350 verter i have in the basement. Other than the verter..I know for a fact it will bolt right up. If the verter is in fact different, the price will reflect. 1969 4X4... I will get some pics tomorow evening...if chevy_fatman ends up not wanting it...you'll have dibs. |
I looked at the verter, and the bolt patern does in fact apear to be the same.
Here is the verter with the stock part number sticker on it still (I think that is a part number) http://www.digitalpose.com/mbr/1/885...5672278_vl.jpg The cast inspection cover... http://www.digitalpose.com/mbr/1/885...1305541_vl.jpg And the tranny. The dipstick can be seen in this shot too. http://www.digitalpose.com/mbr/1/885...0308009_vl.jpg The oil on the tranny case is mostly from spillage while draining it at the shop, and also from the idiots at work spilling other oils on it. t was all while it was sitting witht eh tail shaft in the air though...so no other oils got into the case its self. |
that 4.3 torque conveter should be a little higher than a stock v8 conveter. i think they stall around 2000-2400, depending on the year. they use the v8 flexplate pattern too. the smaller v6's won't interchange or so i've been told

73stepside, it did seem kinda small...baybe an 11 inch.
I guess I'll measure it tonight. |
the third gen guys are looking for these torque converters instead of buying aftermarket. i think they will bolt up as long as you get the double drilled flexplate.
|
Im not too familiar with the 700r4's.. does it have any electronics at all in it? Can you bolt it up to an older, non computer vehicle and run it without any prob's?
|
There is no computers on them. They have a thing called a TV(throttle valve) cable. This is necessary for the transmission to work. It isn't just a kickdown cable or detent cable. Yes you can bolt it up to an older motor with no computers. You might need to make a custom bracket or something for the TV cable.
|
You will need something to controll the lock up converter, it was conrolled by the on board computer. You can get a cheap vac controlled deal that pretty much blows, or you can get a deal witch you can pre-select the speed in which lock up ocours and a couple other functions.
This one, like all later 700R4 trannys, has no provisions for a speedo cable, it was electronic. I think there is a "conversion computer" or something like that on the market, but I am unsure. Most people will either go with no speedo, or search for an older 700R4 tailshaft extention and rob it for the mechanical speedo drive. The TV cable is way more important that a kick down and if not adjusted correctly will completly destroy the tranny in a few thousand miles. There are kits to make it easy to hook up and adjust. |
You heading to Springfield next weekend?
|
No tellin. Whats the details? time,place,cost...ect. I might be able to go.

Never been to it? It's a pretty big swap meet. All kinds of stuff for sale or trade.. Here's the link that has all the info.. http://www.swapandshow.com/
I'm still thinkin' on the tranny.. I got a 57 Chevy Belair I'm putting together.. Thinking it would be different to have a 4 speed auto in it... Either that, or in the 69... |
