Garth and Josh's GMC: We have a 55 1st GMC deluxe cab long bed.(dead ringer for the truck pictured in the 1950's print ad "5 years ahead" in front of the brick Pearse Floral building)My late father bought the truck new from a local dealer and I have recently rescued it from where it was parked outside for appx. 30 years. The truck is basically complete. My son Josh (13) and I will be repairing/reconditioning the truck to drivable condition. The engine is a 1955 to 1962 270 (the door tag lists the HP @ 115 so I think Dad changed out the original 248) w/ 4 speed "granny gear" and retains the starter pedal. Once it's rolling and running we will do body work paint and interior. It will be basically stock except for radial tires, restored upgraded seat to match the original appearance and probably a replacement stock appearing AM/FM radio(I still have the original and the headliner mounted speaker and grill)No hot rodding or show paint job we want it to look and drive like a truck! I have included a link to pix showing the current condition and also pictures of the truck on the day Dad brought it home new.(one colorized w/him(above) and one b&w) Also there are a couple of images from the 1954 print add featuring the almost identical truck! http://photobucket.com/54gmc100 Thanks, Garth Ervin Placerville CA |

Very cool story, very cool looking truck. I'll bet that truck got compliments when it was new. Keep us posted on your progress.

Very nice Delux, nice ro see another one being restored.
That shot of the truck with your dad needs to be kept on the wall for insperation. Those grille parts are hard to come by! |

Thanks for looking !
Luckily Dad gathered some extra parts. (the chrome grille is in poor shape) I have a complete painted grille with top portion and parking light sections that I plan to have plated also another chrome grille w/ the top portion (has some dents) The picture with my Dad is actually framed and hanging on my wall it was a Christmas present I made for him using an original b/w photo that I had colorized, it was my inspiration for rescuing the truck so I took a picture of the picture to post (hence the kinda poor quality). Check out my photo bucket album. I've added a few interesting items. http://photobucket.com/54gmc100 Thanks, Garth |
