First Old Truck
I picked this truck up at an auction down in Jane Missouri last weekend. It's nothing fancy or desirable really just a long bed, small back window 64. I went to get a 59 el camino for my dad but it was a mess and this truck was one of the most solid old trucks I had ever seen.
It has the typical rust in the lower front fenders, but the rest is amazing. The truck looks like it's been repainted once before, I tried to polish it up a little and it's got a nice patina shine now. If it was all original paint I would probably leave it but because I work in a body shop in the summer I'll probably paint this thing. I got the truck home last saturday night and luckily my dad owns a car lot so he had his mechanics put on all new brakes and clean out the fuel system and now this things runs and drives surprisingly nice. Here is a short plan of action for this truck: 1.new bed wood 2.lower it 3.swap in running 307 I have laying around 4. fix rust and repaint Heres the truck on it's way home http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/5c8aadc5.jpg And some pics after I cleaned it up http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/1ad6756b.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/21622c90.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/8171cf49.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/b4e9c79c.jpg Some fancy Patina http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/8e3b719a.jpg |
Re: First Old Truck
NICE, even like that low profile barden style bumper and Welcome

Re: First Old Truck
Thanks for the welcome, there isn't a section on this forum to do a lot of proper introduction is there? I'm on some car forums that hate if you don't do an intro.
As for the bumper I haven't seen many like it, I think I will keep it and just have it powder coated white |
Re: First Old Truck
why yes, yes there is as a matter of fact! here ya go: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=498980
Love the truck by the way. One of my favorite colors, looks pretty solid and has a nice cool wear on the paint. Welcome! |
Re: First Old Truck
Welcome, and awesome find!
Some pictures of the interior would be fun. No snobs here, very cool place to be. Craig from the home of hockey, and Neil Young! |
Re: First Old Truck
The interior is real simple. It got a seat cover on the seat that looks like it was once recovered in black vinyl. I'm no expert but I don't think you could get one of these with a black seat.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/a10f5ad3.jpg Also someone hacked the dash up for a radio, so I think i will fill that space with some gauges so I don't have to do any welding inside the cab. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/4f4ac57f.jpg |
Re: First Old Truck
Oh yea you can also see in the first picture where the truck use to have a floor shifter. My guess is they took it out because a really short person drove the truck. Anyways I have a three-speed floor shifter new in the box that I was going to put on my 53 chevy business coupe but I think it will look better in this.

Re: First Old Truck
Welcome to the forum :D
That does look like a really nice clean and straight og truck. Too bad someone used a can opener on the dash for the radio. Keep us posted on your progress....... |
Re: First Old Truck
Thats a nice truck! But I may be biased, have a 64 c10 long bed too

Re: First Old Truck
Yea the dash does really suck, but I can't complain because the rest of the truck is nice, and with a little creativity I should be able to fix it.
It's also good to hear some more people are showing some love for the long beds! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: First Old Truck
Take a look for a dash with a good radio section. You could cut the radio opening around the beaded edge of the good dash and using adhesive, attach it into the can opener dash radio section.
Great looking truck. Could you get some pictures from under the hood and if possible the paint code. |
Re: First Old Truck
Welcome aboard. It looks like a you are off to a solid start with that one. I like it!
Geesh, that hack job on the dash is about the worst ever, I guess your gonna have to get creative there. |
Re: First Old Truck
very solid looking truck..... you dont find them that solid hardly anymore.
The dash would be an easy fix, either replace the entire dash ( which is pretty easy) or just cut out the radio section. Welcome aboard |
Re: First Old Truck
Welcome to the forum, nice score on your hands and I do believe you have got to have the #1 one hack job for your dash....we`ve seen them all here but this one takes the money..

Re: First Old Truck
With the damage already done to that dash, you could always clean/staighten up the hacking, fab a custom bezel, and put a current stereo deck in there... wonder what the story was with the shifter. Seems odd that the apparently original column shifter is in place, yet there is a patch on the floor:crazy:

Re: First Old Truck
Welcome! What a nice truck, it appears to be in remarkably clean condition. The black Naugahyde seat might have been added when the truck was fairly new, as they were very popular in the late 60’s. (Hot and miserable but popular)!
The damage to the dash is uniquely impressive. It looks like someone was trying to install a VCR instead of a radio! Good luck with the repairs, there have been many successful examples posted on the site. |
Re: First Old Truck
Thanks for all the comments guys, I got some good deals at a swap meet in Lawrence KS this morning. Ill post some pictures this evening when I get home, but I only paid $25 for a set of the custom trim that goes on the cab!

Re: First Old Truck
Hmmm radio install by "Hatchet Harry" must be the same guy who did the one in my 'Burb! LOL! Not sure why people seem to butcher these poor trucks trying to install a radio. it couldn't have looked any better with the radio in it!.
Other than that- nice find/score- looks a a great truck and welcome to the forums!:chevy: |

Re: First Old Truck
Nice truck!!!
Welcome!!! |
Re: First Old Truck
Nice, welcome. The cab floor, the trans hump, and the radio hole are like the most hacked up sections on these trucks! lol Almost every truck has at least one, if not all 3 sections hacked up on them. Im a long bed guy too.

Re: First Old Truck
Here are the pictures of what I picked up today, needless to say I love swap meets!
First I picked up 5 used 235-70-15 tires that should fill out the wheel wells nicely http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/b2be6510.jpg I wanted some tri-five dog dish caps for the wheels and started to piece together a set http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/143286a0.jpg but then I found these and couldn't resist, they are a little rough but I can clean them up. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/c3a8000e.jpg and finally the thing I'm most excited about, I can't believe I got these for $25 http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/735e6250.jpg to bad they don't fit my model a :wash: http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h/8c8cf0a8.jpg |
