'62 chevy on '73-'87 4x4 frame

has any one made that swap?would it be easier to put the transfer case, front end,and rear end on the old frame,or take the old body off and mount it on a later model frame?any help would be appreciated.buckshot.

I would set the body on the late frame. It seems that all you would have to do is level out the body, possibly move some body mounts and build some spacers where the body doesn't touch. This is how the majority I have ever seen are done. If not you may have to build some new crossmembers, and I think it would be a big job getting everything set in square. The only big part on the frame swap will be a steering shaft and clutch linkage if it's a 4 speed. Compare the two frames, they may be close.

I knew a guy in maine that put a '66 on a '73 4x4 frame. Getting the cab level was his biggest problem. Once he had it set(he thought), he found out that the whole thing was too far back and couldn't get the motor in. He had to re-engineer a lot of the body mounts. That's one thing to look out for.

thanks for the help.it's sounding like it would be a pain to attempt the switch, maybe i'd be better off just to find a '71 or '72 4x4.anyway,thanks again.buckshot.
