1948 to 1954 suburban seat belts
 

i am in the process of rebuild the suburban after i wrecked it. i need to install shoulder seat belts on all 4 bucket seats.i still dont have a headliner in it and buying different seats with the shoulder belts already built in isnt an option. any one have any pics on how you installed them or what you used.

I installed these bucket seat that have the shoulder belt on my 50 suburban. They r off a 2001 silverado. At first I wanted to hook the seat belt to the inside of the cab but they looked to far back. I did not like it. Hope this helps

I hope you used a large backing plate under the floor at each seat mount bolt, as they double as the seat belt anchor points.

buying new seats with the shoulder harnesses built in isnt an option.i already have about $2000 in upholsted buckets.does anyone have pictures using aftermarket retractable 3 point that actually work.or racing style 4 point.

For some reason a lot of the different state's dot's don't recognize 4 (or more) point racing harnesses as passing their codes. A lot of the street rod/hot rod guys go with belts from here http://www.julianos.com/seat_belts.html They have a good solid reputation and the belts come in a lot of colors to work with different interiors.

I've run used belts in the 48 for the past 34 years but will put new belts in on the rebuild as I'm getting to where I don't trust belts that have been sitting around in cars for years on end.

I grabbed these pic off the 88-98 forum for reference .

Note the location of the upper anchor point in relation to the seat back. First 2 pic's '99 2 door. Next 2 pic's 2k 4 door. Last pic you can just make out the rear belts .

The 2 door Tahoe rear seat belts would be just the ticket for your Sub. as they are extra long and have and extended upper mount bracket to position the belt.

Of course you would have to install a reinforcing plate in the header over the window for the upper anchor points.

I used 88-94 chevy seatbelts in my 49 pickup. I put a reinforcement plate behind where the shoulder belt mounted and reinforcement plates under the floor where it bolted down. Neat thing about these (vs. aftermarket) is how they mount along side the seat on a flat floor. 95-99 Suburban 3rd row seatbelts would probably work for the back seat if the windows are in the way of the shoulder harness, like the picture above.

Heres a idea for you on your inside pillars of your burb you can weld in a plate with a nut welded on the backside of the plate.I would make the plate out of 3/16 thick.We have done this several times over the years on trucks we have done here in the shop.This will give you enough strength to secure in the pillar.

I'm using 99 Chrysler Sebring convertible front seats in my Burb. They have the integrated belts and will fold far enough forward to let people in the back.
