Tire Sticking Out

I have an 86 chevy pickup, and the front driver side tire sticks out. All the other tires are fine, but this particular tire sticks out. I "believe" it could be the bushings. Is there anything I really need to check that may cause the front driver side tire to stick out? Please help. Thank you.

You sure all the rims are the same width and backspacing , not unusual for the wrong part to get in the right box at the factory

Can you please tell me how I can check that? When I bought the truck the rims were already on it. So I'm not sure.

You measure from the mounting surface, where it bolts up to the hub (rotor), to the very back edge of the wheel.
To check width, do the same thing, but to the front side. All wheel measure about 1" wider than that they advertise it at, this is due to the bead. But in your case, this is just for a point of reference, so it will be Ok. - Travis |

If there is any way to stick a tape measure through a hole in the rim I'd suggest that and measuring to check the width in comparison to another rim. Backspacing you can check from the back side of the rim. Measure the distance from where the rim is bolted to the hub to the inside lip of the rim (where the tire is seated on the bead). Then check that measurement in comparison to another rim... It's likely a backspacing difference, but I've been known to be wrong.

Could the front tire stick out because of something in the suspension that maybe went bad??? (this is super irritating!!!)

The other side looks exactly like the other 3 tires. All 3 are tucked in. Just this front tire sticks out.

Pull the front wheels off and swap side to side real quick...that will answer your wheel questions.

You could check to see if the distance is the same from the frame out, maybe the body or fender are shifted to that one side.

So I took my tire off and inspected, I think they are my tie rod ends, they are squashed.. Coulld that be the problem? Could the rotor be different?

I wouldn't think that would be it. I would take a picture of the other side, so we can see what that looks like for comparison and how much of a difference it is.
I would put the front on jack stands and make sure it is level, then take both wheels off. From there, tie a few washers onto a string and hang it from the outside fender lip. Measure from the mounting surface on the rotor, to the string..... and see if both measure the same. I am sure it might be off a hair due to production tolerances, but should be close. |

my tire keep rubbing the fender on the driver side only and notice it stick out and the other 3 are well tuck in

If you swapped wheels and still see the offset (which looks accessive to me) I'd say you have something going on because all the trucks I've owned never had a difference from side to side. Could be that thing was in a front end collision too, and things just weren't straightened properly during the repair. |

I think 1bad87 is on to something. I noticed all of my squares in the yard stick out on the drivers side. It's really noticeable on my slammed 84 GMC.

Just for the record here is a picture of how to measure back spacing. I realize we are beyond this now, but for anyone new who may be reading it.

Not "all" trucks do this (mine does not). It was particularly senstive on regular cabs, due to the short length; conversely it was never really a problem on Blazer/Suburban with their comparitively long bodies. Sounds like a chassis/wheel issue to me. K |
