Bell housing to connect NV4500 to 1964 305 V6?
 

Hello all,

OK I know this one is a reach, but I just lost 1st and reverse in my 3 on the tree no synchro first tranny in my 1964 GMC Fleetside short bed 4X4. Divorced T-case. It's pretty good timing as it's spring and I was planning to swap to an NV4500 at some point. The motor still runs well and I'm not prepared to swap it at the same time as the tranny, so I'll take the hit on the bell housing to mate the NV4500 to my old 305 V6 - then when time comes I'll swap out the motor for a chevy 350.

Anyone know of an outfit that makes or modifies bell housing to fit this application? NV4500 to 1964 GMC 305 V6 with a divorced T-case (should make it easier).

Thanks for the tip. I have an email in to Advanced Adapters and JB Conversions. We'll see what they come up with.

I guess what I really need is the measurements for the bolt pattern on the back of my 305 V6 block. This way I can pick through all the trannies in existence to see what fits - hoping to find a bell housing that'll bolt to the motor and the NV4500. Armed with this info, I'll be better able to tell Advanced and other outfits what I need.

Trouble is I'd like to have everything given to me for free...um, I mean I'd love to find the bolt pattern without having to disconnect the tranny to measure.

Got any ideas for websites that have motor/transmission bolt pattern drawings/measurements.

64 GMC Fleetside Short Bed 4X4

If you get the dodge version of the nv4500, it has the standard length (similar to a SM465) to the input shaft. The reason that this is important is tha you could redrill your current bellhousing to match the dodge pattern, and everything should bolt up. Remember to get a 2WD version so it will match up with your divorced transfer case.

Hey, great idea - reuse my current bell housing. It's the obvious answers that most often escape us - or is it just me?!

Any idea on the bell housing bolt pattern for the NV4500?

The bolt pattern is basically wider that the SM420/SM465. If the input shaft is longer than the one you're replacing, you could make a plate to adapt the NV4500 to the original bellhousing. Failing that, who said you can't redrill the tranny?
