1955 chevy 3200 truck vin number.

Hi all
I have a 1955 chevy 3200 truck with a problem.
The vin number seems incorrect on paperwork i have for this truck.
There seems too be no tag anywhere.
These are numbers i have on previous paperwork
Old paperwork vin is 255k0216
New paperwork 0789083F255X
I can only assume the correct number should be
M255K000216
I have checked various web sites and i know that it is almost impossible to get the last 6 numbers on the vin.

Thank you for any help or contacts that might be available.

Re: 1955 chevy 3200 truck vin number.

I think M255K00216 or M255K000216 would be correct for that era.

That said, my '56 Chevy 3200 is 10 digits.

My '56 GMC 100 is 11 digits. Same for my '57 GMC 100.

My '66 Dart is 13 digits ..........

If your truck is all original the VIN should be on a metal tag on the drivers door hinge post at windshield height and on the chassis drivers side top rail in two places, 1. Above the axle in front of the steering box and 2. Centered under the cab between the mounts on the top rail.

I think someone got lazy on the old paper work.

The new paper work may be the assigned number by the D.M.V. or someone is dyslexic.

Gadzooks, the spelling of dyslexic looks dyslexic :)

The other thing to consider is was this a US built or Canadian built truck. That could make a difference on VIN #

Philzee, I would say the number on your 'new paperwork' is the engine serial number. Looks like it was made in the same place my 56 was (Kansas City) and there should be six digits after the K. Some have a stainless plate on the pillar, and others have a bigger square aluminum plate with more than just the VIN on it, maybe on the firewall.

Hey PHILZEE, was that a US import truck or from another country? I have a '55 motorhome and the new title vin is similar to yours. It was a ubuilt truck back in the day, but I couldn't bring the title with me across the line cuz there's no tags anywhere on the truck.

Are you trying to get insurance on your truck or just check which VIN is what?

I also have a 1956 3200 and my VIN starts off as 3B followed by 9 more numbers/letters. 11 total. There are websites that give you the VIN breakdown. I think LMC truck also does this in the front of their catalog.

Decoding your VIN M255K0216 according to LMC decoder you have a 6 cylinder, 3200,
1955 2nd series, Kansas City Plant, #216 of the line.

If your truck was a V-8 the VIN would be VM255K0216

Thanks for the help, the truck was brought over here in 1990,and im not sure as too what engine was fitted when new, as we have a yearly road worthy certificate a lot of these certificates were the old M255K0216 number then got changed too 0789083F255X
for the new type certificates about 5 years ago.
There is no tag on the truck anywhere.
