Re: Wife's 72' Build

Negative. The previous owner painted it a year or more ago, and the paint is still tacky.

We haven't decided on color of the new paint yet. All we know Is it won't be blue :)

(wife would prefer it be left in primer)

Looks like a cool project. Maybe he didn't use the catylist or hardner in the paint.

Re: Wife's 72' Build

Yes, the paint is STILL tacky. The guy told us when we bought it "I'm not a professional painter, it looks good from 5ft or at 5mph". Not to mention the fact that he painted EVERYTHING inside and out. After 2+ days stripping the cab/fenders we decided for our own sanity to just have it professionally sand blasted. Since we've been taking it Appart, just leaning on it too long leaves blue paint on the skin.

We are considering a 2 tone paint scheme. But can't come to a consensus.

Looks great, do yourself a favor and get with some of those Cali guys and get some nice stock doors. The repros are an ok last resort, but you'll be happier with stockers. Good luck, great start!

Re: Wife's 72' Build

The doors that the truck had we're in terrible shape and we did buy 2 gently used doors from a local guy who does nothing but collect parts and sell them for these trucks.... However, after and afternoon of searching Craigslist we found 2 brand new doors (still in the box) 2 hours away. These doors needed no body work at all and after 2 min of negotiation we got both brand new doors for $100.

We did also decide on a paint color. I (the wife) choose my wheels which ultimately helped us to decide the paint color. I myself prefer a premiered hot rod but the husband says we have to paint this one :)

Yep.... And by choosing these we were also able to pick a paint color for the truck.
