Does anybody have the correct location for the rear tow hooks? I have the hooks and the mounting bolts, but cant find the literature in the factory book on them. Ive even found factory literature if you want to buy them, but nothing on mounting.

How much did those cost you? I've got 4 similar tow hooks and I probably wont be using them on my project. Just curious what they might be worth now a days.

I know they're on top of the bumper but placement, no idea. I'd say right above the frame rails most likely. On my big commercial van that's where they are.

They mount under the frame rails forward of the rear bumper bracket, just not sure on the exact position.

Oh ok...I've seen them on top of the bumpers from old stock pics too, but I figured under would make more sense anyways lol

I guess there are no pre-drilled holes for those either.

No, there are for the front hooks, but not the rear.

72supermike did this...hope he doesn't mind me taking the pics. These are the same hooks that he mounted on his 72. The factory hooks are actually wider than the frame. I figured this was going to be the approach to mount them.

The pics above are a 72 frame, which seems to be a little narrower at the end of the frame. On the 63-66 I believe the frames are 3 1/8" or pretty damn close. The hooks are 4" wide at the rear with the mounting holes being around 3 1/2". The bolts are 3/4" grade 8 2" long. The problem is the outer most hole towards the rear end would split on the edge of the frame. The frame will have to be widened in this portion, maybe 4-6" total. Maybe CaptainFab can help on this one. I made a pretty good template last night, but forgot to bring and scan.

Depends if they are original or reproductions. The repops are bringing $50-100 and the originals are bringing $100-300 if they are in a set. It seems harder to sell a single hook. Most guys want a set, and if you buy a left for instance, it'll take forever to find a right. But these prices are what I see them go for. What they are worth I guesss is what someone is willing to pay.

That install and mounting looks pretty good and clean. I thought they are a little wide to actually go on the frame, but maybe from the factory they added a plate beneath that's wider. I've never seen them in person except for big trucks like my '64 which has 2 front hooks and 2 rear hooks. Both of which top side up.

Re: Rear tow hook 1960-66

I spoke with 72supermike....asked him how they have held up..etc. He said that he has used them and hasn't had any problems with the hooks, welds or any of the work he did on them. The only negative thing he said was that you couldn't see them unless you got down to look for them.
