72 3.07 posi rear
Last summer I put a 72 3.07 rearend with posi in my truck. I'm in the process of installing an LS1/700R4 combo and will be changing to 4.10 gears. At first, I was going to put gears in this rearend, but I'm thinking now that I may find another rear to build, and sell this one.
I need to see if there would be any interest in this rearend the way it is now. I also need to know what some of you may think it's worth. I'm thinking somewhere in the $350 range. Am I close? |
Re: 72 3.07 posi rear
I think completely rebuilt with new seals, bearings, drums, etc...just bolt and go would be more like $450-$500

id take that rear from you for 350! but shipping would def kill the deal

If it were me, I would just sell the posi, that would bring the $350 ish. the 3.07 can only go up to 3.73 in the 3series housing anyway. BTW, I think with your posi and a 3.73 you would be in great shape, not too much muscle and not too much economy

Re: 72 3.07 posi rear
Clyde, I'm a rookie at this stuff, but doesn't he need a series 4 for 3.73? or did I read that he could order a "thicker" 3.73 to fit the series 3 carrier he has?

Re: 72 3.07 posi rear
Yes, Geoff. The 3.73 is a 4 series gear. And, yes, one can order thicker gears to fit into 3 series carriers. I actually ordered a 4.10 gear to fit into this rear I have, but my builder said I wouldn't be happy with the Richmond gear I had ordered. I also wasn't really to that stage, so I sent it back, and ordered some more stuff I needed now anyway.
