SAD day for a 72 4x4
a little history here for me. i work at a local scrap yard as a truck driver. occasionally i see some things worth saving. i take them home as much as i can. but where i hual to is a much bigger scrap yard and i see all kinds of terriable things happen there! today was the WORST! while im sweeping out my trailer i see a tow truck hual in a 1972 3/4 ton 4x4 4 speed all original and COMPLETE! factory TACH dash. it was in as good of shape as my 71 when i brought it home. the crappy thing is the yard i hual to is very very stricked about "once its in the yard its thiers" so up the conveyer belt to the shredder it went! i almost cryed :waah:

Re: SAD day for a 72 4x4
I'll be glad when the bottom falls out of scrap metal. I get sick of our trucks getting scrapped just because the price is so high. Hard to believe the guy driving the tow truck didn't have time to part it out........just dumb!
The scrappers are in a nice word jerks! It wouldn't cost them any profits to let guys save a few part while they are in line to be shredded. The only bright spot in this deal it makes the survivors more valuable. |

Re: SAD day for a 72 4x4
That's why I couldn't work in a salvage yard or be a garbage truck driver. Makes ya want to cry. Such a shame.

Re: SAD day for a 72 4x4
is there a company rule or law keeping an employee from salvaging it?
that's a true pity. |
Re: SAD day for a 72 4x4
The scrap will probably end up being shipped to China or end up in a Prius. Don't know which fate is worse :( Now I'm just pissed.

Re: SAD day for a 72 4x4
The sucky part is... even the scrap yard coulda put it out front with a FOR SALE sign on it, and got cash for the exact amount of money they'll get from the scrap.
Then at least it could go to someone that wants it. For at least the parts... cripes! Too many old desireable cars and trucks that are still in salvageable condition for enthusiasts go to the scrap yard far too often. :(:(:( I'm a little more old school... so I'll pour a quart of Pennzoil 30wt for our dearly departed friend. Also, there are a few guys near me that have turned their yards into scrap yards, every few months the crusher comes to them. One guy crushed a pretty salvageable 68 a while back. I thought he was saving it, next thing I know it was flat as a pancake on the back of a semi. I would have tried to buy it if I had known it was going that route. Back when they had the cash for clunker deal, there were tons of good running old trucks crushed too. I guess it's just the nature of the beast..... |
Re: SAD day for a 72 4x4
Thats a shame, but the reality is this, if they let people in to pull parts than there is liabilities if someone got hurt, also they would then need a license to sell parts to the public. As far as selling whole, then they would need a dealers license and hope they have titles for the vehicles that come in. Why would they mess around with all that when that truck pictured is probably close to $1000 to them after parting/crushing. Don't get me wrong, i don't support it, its just the way it is.

Re: SAD day for a 72 4x4
Man that would be hard to atleast not run over and pluck that tach dash out.
