looking for code 516 orange pics - (I love hugger, but looking specifically for tangier on this thread). Originals, repaints, you name it. Looks kinda like this:
Have looked through many of the "post your orange truck pics" and very few are tangier orange. Just wondering if there are any more, one of my favorite colors. Thanks!

That is a nice color. Is that your truck by chance? I love orange vehicles.

Nothinghead, that's not mine, I sure wish it was though! My first truck was a 72 cheyenne - and I "think" it was a 514 (light red) code. That was many years ago. I can tell you that in person it looked much more orange - anyway, I still think it's a 514 light red truck. Here's a pic of it below, I was 18 at the time... (and don't mind the giant rust in the bed wheelwells.... Oh, I miss the midwest road salt!)

Frijolito - Hugger is the 524 code, Tangier is the 516 code. While I know Tangier orange was an original 72 truck color - I'm not 100% positive Hugger was. But - I THINK (don't quote me) it was called "Firebolt Orange" on the trucks - but was indeed the same color as Hugger orange.

Anyone know that latter part for certain??

Here's my '68 C/10 Stepside. Original 516 Orange.
I have also heard that color referred to as "Omaha Orange," although someone said [on this board] that 'Omaha was a Ford color.' Could also be an older series color word, or a DuPont name. "Hugger" orange came in in '69.
I have also heard "Tangerine" and "Sunbolt". Of course the boys in advertising, sales and marketing get bored with calling a truck by the same color year after year, so they change it up.

Forty year Arizona patina.

Tangiers Orange is pure orange and Hugger Orange is Red Orange, another name GM used for the same code. Think oranges vs tangerines. Tangiers Orange was a marketing name used for what is more commonly known as Omaha Orange, which is a timeless fleet color still used today as well as years prior to '67. Allied moving vans are this color,as well as Asplundt Tree Service, and about any other national (or local) company using orange in their fleet. It's pretty much "Competion Orange" which takes it from being a big ole truck color to a fast racing machine color and really looks slick on one of these trucks with Cragars or other period mags:

Re: tangier orange only pics

thanks all - Special K, Omaha orange is indeed from the earlier series trucks, but I'm pretty sure a common color with Tangier Orange. It started back in the AD series.

As much as I've browsed around, I've yet to find a single stop shopping thread that links "brochure" names (like Tangier) with SPID code names and codes.

For instance:
516 = "Tangier Orange" (brochure) = "Orange" (SPID)
511 = "Wheatland Yellow" (brochure) = "Ochre" (SPID)
yada yada....

Seems like a reasonable idea for a sticky or something like that, broken down by years, etc. I've found LOTS of references that list the code and SPID nomenclature together - but none that linked code with SPID and brochure. Seems like that would be useful.

72Cheyenne454, where did you get those wheels on your truck? I have been looking high and low for those. Are they 8 or 10" wide. I'm in need of 8" wide 8 lug.

Thanks

Any wheel shop can re-rim a stock center to whatever size/offset you need.

My wheels are 16.5 x 9.75 Kelsey Hayes. I found them at the Pomona swap meet here in SoCal.

Like you, I searched forever before this set turned up. Right after, I found another set of four, also 9.75 wide. Shortly after that, I found two 16.5 x 8. I would be willing to part with them, but I don't have any idea what shipping would cost.
