Short box length
 

This has probably been answered dozens of times, but since Ive never been a short box guy I seldom read those threads.

If the tail gate is down does a short box then measure 8ft to the end of the gate?

Actually, just about. The shortbeds published numbers are 78" inside length or 6 1/2'. Add the tailgate which is 19 1/4" on the Fleetside and 17 3/8" on the Stepside. Totals out to 97 1/4" or 95 3/8".
