Mystery hole

I am finally done welding my bed up. There where so many misc holes drilled all over this bed. I have a hole on the post right where the tailgate latches into it. Is this hole factory? If not I will weld it up. Thanks guys.

Doesn't look like it to me.
It looks like the kind of spot one would drill a hole for a camper or tailgate lock.

That may be what it was. They are on both sides.
