replacing the dash speaker.
Has anyone replace the dash speaker? I was looking for one that was still in a truck for measurements. But I have not been able to find one. Dose anyone know what size the speaker is. and what brands are available. Thanks Landon

I think it is 4X10" but can't remember hoe tall it is. If you want to go "original" several of the vendors sell repos or "upgrades designed to fit in that space. Gmc Paul has them.

Dual Cone Speaker
1 Attachment(s)
Take a look at Auto Custom Sounds new Dual Voice Cone DVC dash speaker. Works in stereo, 140 W, and comes with the bracket to fit our trucks...sort of LOL. The first one I installed, I had to measure, cut, fit & weld to get it to mount right. I sent them the pics & specs////THEN they told me it mounts to the dash pad stud, not to the original speaker mount. Now the instructions are included---DAH!
Add two kick panel speakers and there are no holes to cut in your truck...or if you already have door speakers, run them and enjoy. |
I have the dual-coil speaker, too. I have it hooked up to a vintage 70's pioneer 8-track. It sounds pretty good and the speaker is clear at loud volumes.

I ordered the dual from LMC but after seeing the one PICKMUP posted I am sorry I did.
PICKMUP if you don't mind how much was that and where did you order it? |
..and would that work with a stock radio on a 68 Camaro?

I am a dealer for Custom Auto Sound, so I just pulled one out of stock to show. I tried to sell those dual speakers before, but they were so cheap they were always blowing out...so I stopped selling them! You can email me if you would like more info. I also stock the USA-1 radios and kick panel pods for speakers. frankeham@attbi.com

Thank You everyone for the help. :flag:
Frank you got mail. :p |
One thing to remember is, be careful what your hooking the speaker up to, If have a stock AM or AM/FM or 8 Track (not sure if a factory 8 Track was available back then) do NOT use 4 ohm speakers, the original speakers back then were 10 ohm and if you use the new 4 ohm speakers you will eventually fry your power source!!!! I stuck 2 aftermarket speakers in there using a mounting plate I made out of Lexan. Somehow, I used part of the original mounting bracket to hold things in place. Don't remember how. Just know I don't ever want to do it again.
Now, however, there isn't room for the center AC vent "pipe". Anybody else run into this problem? |
