Idiot pedestrian hit my truck!
 

On my way home tonight, a pack of wild children (native to Baltimore) ran into my truck and caved in my drivers side door. According to a witness, they were lying in wait for a vehicle to come by and then jumped into it (me.)

The cop said she has been dealing with this all day.

something tells me this is going to cost more than or close to the 2700 the insurance says this is worth. Window wont go up and the side mirror got knocked off and busted my elbow pretty good.

Dealing with it all day? Put the kids in the slammer for a few hours.
Or, send a few semi trucks down the street, that oughta take care of the problem quick!

That blows, the cop didn't do anything about the kids either? I'd find a good GM door and have it painted and hung by a reputable body shop if I didn't want to deal with it myself. I don't think they'll total it over a part that unbolts like that, they'll probably try to lowball and claim it can be fixed with a taiwan door skin and cheap paint for a couple hundred bucks if anything.

That's good.

Cops haven't caught the kids yet. they have just been cleaning up after them. I heard some fire trucks a little while ago. Perhaps someone nailed one of them.

I don't want to get into controversial topics, but there is minimal parenting being done here. In the summer time, these packs of children just roam around with sticks, bikes and bad ideas and break things. happens every summer I have been here. We live near the public pool, and once that opens, all hell breaks loose in our neighborhood.

Last week somone broke into my GTI and cleaned house. Took my registration and everything.

That is a huge dent it will take a door skin or door to repair it right.I would buy a used door and let a body shop put it on and paint it.

One estimate is 1160 to get a junkyard door and mirror, hang it and paint it with no blending.

The official USAA estimate is 745. Apparently they only alloyed 3.5 hours to body labor and the first place allotted 10 hours. Not sure what that is about.

1755.00 is the threshold for being totaled.

That gets my blood pressure up just thinking of it. A used door sprayed to match should only run 7-800 installed. I see some cracked filler there. Look at it as an opportunity to get some mud off the truck. You still have your map pockets? Pepper spray would travel nicely there.;)

Well the truck is an easy fix. What I don't understand is what kind of kids do you have out there that jump into moving cars for kicks? :lol:

I've heard some dumb things before but that's a new one on me :lol:

Sounds like someone that needs to be removed from the gene pool :lol:

natural selection.. just not working quickly. Thing is the parents will be in hysterics wanting justice when something does happen.. cause you know, they never ever caused trouble and were such good kids! Isn't that what is always said on the news?



OP sorry about your door.. just glad it is not worse. The what ifs thoughts are scary.

If it happens again,slam on the brakes then nail it! Just say it was your reaction in trying to avoid the situation. No way that'll cost any more than $700-800 dollars. Go with the high estimate and have it done cheaper. Then,buy my seats with the rest of the money. Just play hard ball with the adjuster. I always do. Hard ball beats low ball every time. Don't let them forget this is your property here,not theirs and that's how it will be handled.

too late, unfortunately.

They wrote a check for the 700 bucks, and then told em that if the shop i take it to wants more, they will gladly pay them directly.


I did pay off another credit card with it, which means I am that much closer to getting the hell out of this terrible city. The mountains of Maine are calling me.

I blame crack babies. Look at it this way, at least they werent takin bath salts and throwing their inards at you. Although running into random vehicles does suggest zombie type behavior.
