Charcoal Canister

Do the canisters need to be replaced with time? Do they wear out? What's inside them? I recently replaced all of my vacuum tubing and just wondered if the canister is really necessary.

I have the same question-subscribed. I bought a new GM one before they discontinued them, I'm still using my original one until I know it's bad or not.

When I was a little man my dad made me put a new filter on one in my first car a 76 chevy impala. There was a 1" thick white filter in the bottom of the canister. I searched on Autozone for one in a 72 C10 and didn't find one. Maybe they were not replaceable in these trucks ??

I usually disconnect and trash them though, thats just me and OK emissions I can get away with it but other states may not be able to.
