Big Pickup

Seeing how this guy pulled off the perfect big pickup thing I thought some would appreciate seeing this one. He nailed it. This truck runs a Detroit 6-53,has overdrive, and uses disc brake axles from an Isuzu,IIRC.
Take a look:

Awesome truck, I had the same idea for my '42 dump, but I just put money into brakes. Looks like i miss a beautiful weekend at Macungie!!!

Wow, very nice.
Those axles tuck nicely too. Who woulda thunk it?

That is one good looking well put together truck. Minus the chrome lug nuts most people would think it is a totally restored stock truck until he fired it up.

Booger1949, Shiny looks a whole lot better than the tired pulp log hauler looking flat paint. Maybe it's just because I ran my truck in tinted primer for over 20 years and am so tired of flat looking paint that I could scream.

It was a great weekend. Over 600 trucks, blue skies, and not too hot. I took 201 pictures! I saw this truck there in '09. Man,what a sloppy wet weekend that was. My feet were wet for two days straight. I didn't take hardly any pictures that year cuz I didn't want to ruin my camera. I'll post a thread with the other 47-59s when I get a chance.

if your working on vintage iron and want disc brakes and modern rear, isuzu NPR axles are the way to go. They are narrow, heavy duty and retain the old 6 on 8.75 bolt pattern a lot of these older trucks had. Can run 16" up to 22.5" wheels. My 57 lcf is on a 2003 GMC w4500hd chassis (same as isuzu npr) and the axle width was only 2 inches wider than the originals.

^ Good info. How about this custom made bed? I like how it's wide so the fenders can be normal. And,how about that front bumper on the rear? The interior looked stock. The right color and everything. The seat was made more comfortable with cloth cover.

Re: Big Pickup

The bed does look like it was widened several inches but the fenders also look like they were widened a bit.

The more you look at the photos the more you see some serious thought put into building custom pieces that look factory stock and maybe even better than stock in some ways. Look at how the stanchions on the side of the bed mimic the shape of the side of the cab.

That is a cool truck. It just looks "right".

I don't recall ever seeing full length two piece running boards... is that custom or just something I have never seen ?
