62 Burban and V6 ?

This next month, Ill be road tripping to pick up my new project ... a 62 GMC burban.

Excited about this build, as this vehicle will accomidate the entire family, especially when camping/boating.....and plain ol crusin !

Future plans will include a '63 3/4 ton frame swap, and some sort of modern junkyard V8 swap.

Currently, it has no drivetrain.

Untill I get around to the major project .... I was thinking of a temporary powerplant in its stock chassis..... A 2000 4.3 vortec v6, and 700r4.

This engine combo will eventually make its way into my Samurai project.

(man, I say that word a lot, 'project')

Thought this would a quick couple weekend install, beats pushing around a burban around the yard, and could actually drive it untill Im ready for a full build.

Curious how it would perform ?

Assuming its about 190hp..... Compared it stock v6....

At least Im staying true to the "V6" badging on hood !

According to Jolly's website, your new V6 would have more Horsepower. I don't think it can match the torque of the old V6 monster though. LOL

305D V6

Gross Horsepower
165 @ 3800 rpm

Net Horsepower
142 @ 3800 rpm

Gross Torque
280 @ 1600 rpm

Net Torque
260 @ 1600 rpm

Sounds like a great project. Looking forward to progress, I'll stay tuned!!

I figure I would use this set-up as a "temporary" burb mover.

Definately want to drop the X chassis in favor of the more common chassis.

I think it should do fine as a driver/cruiser engine. Are you staying with the EFI? If so it should do decent on gas too.

Ya, I would retain the stock "vortec" injection set-up.

The harness and ECM was converted to stand-alone years ago.

remember the 'burb uses a swb chassis... and don't lose the rear foot or so of the burb chassis, that has your bumper bracket.

Ya I know .... Gonna shorten the chassis, and reuse the rear half.......or ask you if you have a rear section, so I can leave the 62 chassis for someone else ....

i have a rear set if you need them, they are about 4" short though. bumper ends are there. this was how they had the rear of that suburban mounted that I bought that was on an 84 4 x 4 frame. has bumper and brackets also
