Fuel gauge install
OK guys, I got my gas gauge and going to try and install it this weekend. My question is should I drop the tank or pull the bed to gain access to the sending unit? And should I change the sending unit while I'm there? The gauge hasn't worked in a long time. My thinking is while I have everything down I should go ahead and change the sending unit as well. Do you all agree?

Come on guys, I need to know something by 4pm CST to see if I need to borrow the lift from work or not.

Well,
Dropping a tank on one of these isn't very hard if you're low on gas. Otherwise, it gets ... heavy. Plan on replacing your tank straps while you're at it. Most of the time the welded-on bolts are so rusty that they have to be cut. Brian |
I would say drop the tank. And since you have it down, if you have the dough, I would put in new sender to.
|
PS I would install a new filter on it also. I believe it is actually the pickup screen, but since you have it all out, might as well do that to.
|
I agree. Drop it, clean it out and install a new sender with new hoses. If you had the $$$ I'd change to a poly tank.

While the tank's out look inside & see how much rust it has in it.

Went pretty smooth! Dropped the tank, not too bad. Got it together and was going to get gas. Pulled out of my driveway and ran out of damn gas. I ran it low, so I could drop the tank. Luckily I had a gas can with me. Made it to the store and 15.59 gallons in the 16 gal tank. Cranked it up and the needle went to Full. Yesssss!!!!! I will get some pics of it ASAP!!

Score! Congrats on a good job! YES pics please!
