72 c-10 cab on a 94 3500 frame Your thoughts...

i have a 72- c-10 i am getting a 1994 gmc 3500. I am trying to figure out the best way to combine the two. I want the cab and fenders from my c10 and everything else from the 3500. i am considereing...

1 cab swap
2 take everything i want off the 3500 and put it in my c-10
engine tranny brake booster etc...
3 cut the front section of the frame off the 3500 and weld it to my c-10 and take the stuff from option two also.

This is my brainstorming session so any ideas and comments are welcome thanks.

It depends on what you want to do with the truck. Are you going to use it for pulling? Or do you just want a newer engine in an older truck? I wouldnt cut the front end of the frame off of one a weld to another, would be easier to just swap cabs. There will be some fabrication involved in mounting the cab and core support, and the bed if you are using it. If you just want a newer engine and trans just swap those.

I want a newer engine and tranny and if i end up with a bad ass truck in the process thats cool. I am thinking about doing something along the lines of the C10 in Fast in the Furious.

If you've got some time on your hands you could cut the floor and firewall out of both trucks and drape the '72 cab over the new floor/firewall, possibly use the new dash as well?

I have had that same thought!!!! If you want to keep the fuel injection, and the better brakes just swap cabs, that would be easiest. I have heard of people cutting out the floors and firewalls and replacing with the newer, but havent seen it done...would be interesting to see.

Phat Tony i never thought of that... One of my hang ups about doing the cab swap was the 72 cab not sitting properly on the 94 frame and the bottom of my cab is in bad shape so that would be kiling two birds with one stone.

Fakerwade did this but with a 2003 Tahoe 4x4. He did an awesome job on it. Looks like A LOT of fab work making the firewalls and everything blend together. I would rather just move the old cab to the new frame and move the body mounts to line up. Sounds much easier in my head anyway,.

Swap everything to the 72. Motor should bolt in with 72 motor mounts (Small block to small block, big block to big block). Trans should fit moving the crossmember and drilling new holes. Then remove fuel injection wiring and transfer over to 72 or get stand alone wiring/conversion. Brake booster (if hydroboost) should transfer over with some bracket fab or an Astro Van mounting plate.

I wouldn't take on all the fabrication required to put a 72 cab on a 94 floor. Cab swap would be okay but overall the best way is to transfer drivetrain and play with the wiring side of it. Quite a few people have done TBI swaps and you should be able to find them on this site / google for more info than you can shake a stick at. Fabbing small brackets and wiring changes are much simpler and more likely to be finished than splitting a cab in half.
