82' stepside 700r4 swap tv cable? please help
 

well, im on the hunt for a 700r4 tranny for my 82 stepside, as i want the overdrive.
in the process of doing some research on 700r4 trannys i ran across discussions on the TV cable.

can somebody please SIMPLY explain to me what this is, what it does, am i going to need it, where i get it and the stuff for it etc?

ive never heard of this before :confused:

Just did the 700 swap in my 77. I think Im actually getting more than 15 mpg now. Its kind of nice.
When you are ready to purchase, bowtie overdrives has about everything you could possibly need.

Having built a number of these my advice would be to make sure you get a 87-92 model which is equipped with the aux valve body. These are typically stronger cases and have the larger diameter input shaft and pump assy. There are a host of upgrades you can do and make this trans a very reliable one that you will be very happy with.
Here are some pics to help you identify the later cases. (units without pressure taps and the addition of the "ring" around the 2-4 servo assy are later model cases, with the pressure taps = early case) You can also look at the identification number too....

Its really not difficult at all. You can reuse your crossmember. It will just need to be slid back and will utilize 2 holes that are already there. You will need to redrill the other 2 but not a big deal. OR, you can be lazy like me and not get around to it yet but still drive the truck.
You'll also need the adapter for whatever carb setup you have to connect the TV cable. Then also the TV cable. Id recommend a pressure gauge you can get for 35 bucks from Bowtie Overdrives to make sure you have it setup correctly.
Thats really all you'll need. My 350 tranny lines went right in to my 700 ports without issues. Its been about a month and I'm getting 5-6 better MPGs
