Fair, good? Advice, please.

I was wondering how much a shadetree mechanic would usually charge to time an 84 305?
The guy I'm talking to says $40 to time, is this a good price? Thanks.

I'd go pick up a 30$ timing light and do it yourself! Google how to set timing and you'll know forever. It's really easy and you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself. You'll need a 9/16" wrench and a timing light.

Usually mechanic shops charge $40-80 an hour with a one hour min.

Agreed! This is basic (need to know) knowledge for owning/maintaining anything with a distributor! Learn it once and you'll never forget it! :metal:

Price seems fair, but id really recommend learning to do it yourself. Like stated above its really basic knowledge needed to own and work on our trucks. A timing light cost me $10 at a pawn shop, a 9/16 wrench and after reading a few threads here and I can confidently set/adjust my timing any time. Plus you get to buy a new tool.
