71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
So I finally found a body guy that I can afford. This weekend my buddies and I have been busting our butts. We are just about finished with the bed. I had a pretty good dent around the tailgate handle.
Pics of my buddies doing body work. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/photo4-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/photo3-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/photo2-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/photo1-4.jpg |

I've been extremely busy after buying a new house a few weeks ago. I have been really busy with projects and some remodeling this week. I haven't had a chance to work on the truck since last weekend. I have to work this weekend, but am hoping to get there on monday. So far the bed is about 90% done. There are a 3 small dings to works. Then I have doors, hood, and fenders. The outside of the cab is done, just need a light sanding inside to prep for paint. I am hoping that next weekend we will be spraying the primer and doing the final sanding before paint. In case you are all wondering what color, it going to be a medium metallic blue. I can't wait to see my baby painted. |
Re: 71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
what is the blue color off of? name of the color?

Re: 71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
Here is an update of what is not happening. Its currently 109* outside and will continue to be over a 100* until next week sometime. So, nothing will be happening until it cools down. Super bummed. Was hoping to start final prep for paint for next weekend.

Re: 71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
Ok guys, we are getting close. We are having our house warming party this saturday and then its back to the truck. I'm also waiting on some money to come in and then: the bench is getting recovered and hope to get the front driveline. I did buy a master install kit for the front gears. Now I'm waiting for my buddy's hand to heal after surgery in order to help with the gear install. I happen to swing by Early Classics and talked with Mark and Stan. Ended up leaving with a used hood hinge and used outer grill shell that is in much better shape than mine.
Now I need your opinions on something. My truck is a Cheyenne and has the slots for a headliner. I really don't want to spend the money on getting a headliner, but I don't want to leave the slots. So what do I do? |
Re: 71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
Another set back. I received orders to deploy. I did manage to get the seat recovered and the foam replaced. It looks great. I will post pictures soon. I didn't get a chance to drop the grille off to be worked on. My buddy is going to drop if off for me while I'm gone. I hope to have a good amount saved up upon my return in order to buy the front driveline, and other dress-up items.
Any input on what to do with the headliner? |
Re: 71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
Have a safe trip and Thank you for your services. I would consider leaving the head liner or going with a custom head liner of some kind. Filling those slots would be a bit of work to get to look right in my opinon.

Re: 71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
Be safe. Will you have money for a headliner by the time you get back? Options are buy a used one,put something else in there the same thickness and cover (or not),or maybe some sort of vinyl/flexy trim to cover the holes.

Re: 71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
Thanks guys for the support! A buddy of mine has a used headliner that I going to pick up for cheap. I just need trim. Thanks for the input.

I got some more body work accomplished today. I haven't really been motivated to do body work, if you know what I mean. But it needs to get done. I hope to finish in the next few weeks. I go back to work on tuesday after two weeks off, so i hope that i will find time to work on the truck. I am trying to find someone who can weld aluminum. i have a small cut in my grille that needs to be repaired before i can drop it off to get the rest of it cleaned up. Then the gears and front driveline can be installed. Posted via Mobile Device |

Seat looks great - and a great price to boot!

Re: 71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
I have the right fender, the doors, and the interior left to do. The interior just needs to be sanded. As for the fender, I get to try my hand at welding up a split and then smoothing it out. Then I have to wait until the spring for paint. I just ordered the my tach and speedo, to finish my gauge setup. I am quickly running out of money. I hope to get the front gears installed by years end. I need to buy my front driveline, but I am finally building my AR15. So back to the truck, I am going to put her back together in order to enjoy her until the spring time. Plus I'm dying to try out my new seat!

Re: 71 Cheyenne 4x4 - Final Restro Stage
I'm not happy to say this, but I am officially throwing in the towel. I was going to keep the truck, but I spun the crank AGAIN! So I am set on selling her! First person with cash takes her away!
It started clanking and banging when I start the new motor and then goes away after I rev to 2000 rpms. I figured this out after i rev'ed it out of frustration. My buddy believes that the oil filter check valve is stuck, I guess which means the truck is starting with new oil, which i've never heard of. I am very frustrated, since this is the second time this motor has been down. So time to suck it up fix it once and for all, slap some paint on her and say good bye. |
