Degree Shim Help
 

On my 71 Suburban, I am installing about an 3-4 lift kit, and wanted to know if I need degree shims in the rear, The original owner had shims on it with about a 4 inch kit, but I took it out with the suspension. If I need them, which way are they supposed to go on the axle....fat end to the rear, or fat end to the front???? Thanks in advance!

It would be fat end toward the rear so the driveshaft angles towards the transfer case, less bind on the u-joints.

Sometimes the rear blocks are already angled though, you want as little angle from the driveshaft ujoint to the rear pumpkin as possible... It doesn't have to be perfect though...

If you have a single cardan style driveshaft (1 ujoint at both ends) than the angle of the transfer case yoke and the angle of the rear yoke need to be the same at cruising throttle.
If you have a double cardan style drivesaft (2 u joints at one end and a single at the other) than the axle pinion is in line with the driveshaft at cruise throttle.
With everything bolted up, put a angle finder on the yokes and see what ya got.
