Airbag Q: Is this a cheap/stupid way to do it?
 

I seen a guy out this weekend with a dropped C10. The first time I seen the truck drive by me, my friend said "that truck is bagged" and I said it wasn't, because I didn't see the bed cut at all. Well, it went by again, and this time I could DEFINATELY tell it was bagged, but I didn't see the bed cut at all. So, I followed the guy for a few minutes and finally caught up with him in a parking lot and I asked him if he was bagged or what? He said he was a 7"/9" drop (3" Spindle, 3" Control Arm, 1" Spring/5" Flip Kit, 4" Shackle & Hanger) and he said that he was bagged too. I was like "WTF?" so I looked under and sure enough I seen bags. He had a load helper type airbag setup (Looked like the BellTech AirJack setup)

The front had the airbag inside the spring (Airwave, isn't that called?)
Is that a cheap/crappy way to do your airbags, or is it acceptable? He couldn't really go that low, because when he hit the switch the axle was on the C-notch. (it was PRETTY low, but not laying body ;))

BTW: I'd say about 85% of all the bagged C10's I've seen around here are all using that same setup, because I've YET to see a bed be cut open.

Basically that is AirRides Spring over leaf kit. There isn't anything wrong with that, it is an acceptable method. Typically you can't get LOW using that method, which is why others opt for a link system. Also, on a 73-87, if you use that method, you will have to move the shock mounts since they are outside the frame also.

If you are going to go, then go all out. Cut it up! :D BTW, if you can fabricate steel and have the tools, then you can make your own brakets and save some money.

My feeling exactly. If the bolt-on requires cutting/moving, you might as will put something good in there...

J Don't think that if the bed is not hacked up, it does not have bags.. their are alot of trucks with bolt in knotches that don't need to have the bed cut, and still sit really low, they just don't lay-out.
I agree that if your going to do it, than do it!
All of the trucks I have seen with thouse bags did not want to use them in the way that you are thinking, they might pull a trailer or just put heavy crap in the bed, thouse just give the option to run real low but not limit the usses of the truck..

IMO, sounds like he has a cheap setup. Do it once, do it right. I learned this the difficult way. :(
