Winch mounts for front of 68 K20.
I have an early Warn Bellview winch that was mounted in the back of my truck when I got it. I want to mount it on the front. Maybe a front receiving hotch so I can remove it if I want. Any ideas or experiences?
Thanks http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/r..._18431182x.jpg |

Buy a welder and some steel and get to work. Have patience and triple check everything before making cuts or welds. It's alot of work, but worth it in the end. If you're wanting to do a hitch mount go to Harbor Freight. They have a selection of receiver hitch pieces that you can use to save yourself some work.

Wanted a hidden receiver up front so I could slide my winch in when needed and take it off when not needed. Decided to cut a square hole in my front bumper and mount the receiver behind the bumper and weld the receiver tube and bracing in between the frame rails.
Was very happy the way it has turned out. Pictures below. Used a hinged license plate fuel fill frame from an 86 Buick regal to cover the square a cut out with a cutting wheel. My brother and I bought a 12,000 lb Badlands winch from Harbor Freight and mounted on a cradle that slides in the receiver. Works great. |

So you have any pics of the fabrication underneath?

Good job! I'm currently debating weather to do that to my '78 or go for a full fledged winch bumper

Here are some more pictures of underneath. I cut out the bumper and then painted the back with POR15. My buddy, Bill Price, did the fabricating of the square tubes and C channels underneath. Basically used a C channel on the inside of the frame on both sides with a square tube going from one C channel to the other. The square tube was cut out so the 2" receiver square stock could go through it and then welded together. A triangular brace was then welded to both sides. It was then coated with POR15 (love that stuff!).
The hitch is stealth and heavy duty enough for me.:sumo: I used Tweco welding wire quick connectors for the positive and negative cables. Highly recommend those to anybody that wants a solid connection within seconds on both of those cables. Push one into the other and twist and they lock great. |

Re: Winch mounts for front oft a new one. 68 K20.
I don't want to Hijack the thread. It's a Ramsey's commercial 8K winch. Brackets and bolted to the frame. I may have an old thread. I'll looked and bump or start a new one.
