Compressor mounting location ???
2 Attachment(s)
I'm thinking about mounting my compressors to my rear trailing arms. Does anyone forsee any potential problems with me doing so? Or I might weld up a bracket to go from the carrier bearing back and "T" across the frame, not sure yet. I dont plan on drilling holes in the trailing arms, just using a U bolt or steel tabs to wrap around the top lip of the trailing arm.

Re: Compressor mounting location ???
I would not recommend mounting them there, especially when there are a lot of other places that are a lot better locations.
1) The compressors will get heat from the exhaust. It won't hurt them, but will reduce duty cycle since they will be already warm from the exhaust before even turning on. 2) The leader hoses my touch the exhaust and could potentially melt the leader hose. I would mount along the frame rail if at all possible or some other sturdy location along the frame or cross member. I will say..... it is a creative and different idea, but not the best for compressor mounting. VIAIR does make a compressor mounting bracket that will bolt to the frame and allow the compressors to be mounted up right. http://www.onboard-air.com/images/P/95901.jpg Travis |
Re: Compressor mounting location ???
im sure you dont plan on keeping the airlines ran the way you have it but if you have no choice in running your airlines that close to your exhaust i would think about maybe running hardlines so the heat from the exhaust dont melt your lines and cause a problem down the road. It wouldnt take much for the heat to weaken the line and running 100psi or more would cause a line to burst pretty quick. Just an observation and im sure you just have it ran like that to check your air system out and everything. With that said on the compressor mounting i wouldnt want to put them on a movable object especially suspension components as they do take a beating as in hitting rough roads and pot holes that jar your suspension pretty suddenly, and it could damage your compressors or they may break off their mounts etc.

I also agree that's a bad idea. Here's my setup.
