Wraprail, where did you come up with the 150 mph speedo? I am doing a cummins in my 86 crew cab and wanted a place to mount a pyro and boost guage so I cut the upper left double gauge piece out and grafted it into the right side where the a/c vent was then grafted the a/c vent in the bottom where the radio was. I havent got any further with the project yet as I am working on putting the drivetrain in the truck still. I hit the truck wrecking yard last summer and picked up a couple of clusters with the different gauges I wanted, just need to get it all put together. Got a 5,000 rpm tach with the little fuel gauge in it, 80 lb oil pressure gauge, volts, water temp, double air gauge, (for air ride system), then I still need to buy a pyro and boost gauge. I would like a 150 mph speedometer though, with 3.54 gears, 35 inch tires, and the .61 allison 6th gear overdrive, it works out to 144 miles an hour.

Re: Lets see some custom instrument clusters
That looks cool with the extra gauges added.
I got the 150mph speedo out of an early 70s (71 or 72 iirc) Camaro Z28. I just saw one on ebay last week. Don't know if its still there. To install it I just removed the Camaro face, which is held on with 2 screws and sandwiched the truck face between. The screw holes line up as does the high beam light. You need the truck face for the mounting ears. Simple bolt in. I also took the Camaro needles and swapped them on all my other gauges so they matched. |
Re: Lets see some custom instrument clusters
Thanks, I forgot to take a pic with the vent relocated. There is one on ebay, ends tonight, im going for it!I am going to have all my gauges white faced so I imagine I could just use the truck face and have the 150 sticker put on it.

Re: Lets see some custom instrument clusters
Tell me more about the Tach/Fuel gauge. Did GM make one for squarebodies? If so will it work in place of the 5" gas gauge?

Re: Lets see some custom instrument clusters
Yes gm did and very recently lmc truck had made reproductions of these so looking hard for one is no longer an issue. The issue is truck gauges go to 5k and not all have fuel gauges the lmc ones don't either http://www.lmctruck.com/newparts/csb/csbrpt.htm
