Input on cleaning rust from wheels
I picked up some rallys and they have some top surface rust. I have never cleaned steel wheels in this condition. I knew I had some options to do this and as a last resort I can get them blasted.
I used a paint stripping wheel on them and it made some light scratches in the metal. It's just a surface cleaning disc. If I plan to paint them do I need to worry about these marks? I don't want to ruin them. |
Re: Input on cleaning rust from wheels
If you want them done right, get them blasted.
I have cleaned wheels by hand sanding, stripping wheels, cleaners, and other home remedies. It is a lot of work, and to me doesn't come out as whell. If it is mostly a beater/DD, then just sand them and paint. |
Re: Input on cleaning rust from wheels
If you have the option to get them blasted go for it. They will turn out much nicer. Just be sure to thoroughly clean all the media off before you paint. The light scratches are nothing to worry about unless you want the wheel polished, but since you are painting its no biggie. Painting them isn't that hard either just make sure you are patient. My rims went from this
