Just missed out on this truck on ebay:

Thought it was a good deal. Did anyone here get her?

Was this a great deal or what? I was the victim of a slow modem and/or poor timing...:confused: Wishin' I'da gone higher.

Seems like a bit much, there was no mention of the rust situation. I would like to see further evidence of some sort that it actuallly has 17,000 miles. Pretty much the only thing it has going for it in the value department is the 4X4 IMO

I agree with Gee_Em regarding further evidence and condition. Assuming it is <20K and it appears to be a low mileage original (No rust, minimal body blemishes) then the price is fair IMO.

I base that on comparision to what a comparable "modern" 4x4 would sell for plus the fact that an unmolested original has far more appeal to me than somebody's modified project in equal condition.

I think the long-step bed would be a negative for most people, but on a 4x4 they seem more in proportion than on a 2wd. I think it has a lot more going for it than just the 4x4.

You'd still have to expect to go through it and replace seals, hoses, etc due to age and dry rot.

I hope it goes to a good home where it will be respected for the "time capsule" it is and not lifted and the 292 junked in favor of a 454BB (though those things are cool to do if ya gotta rebuild it from the ground up anyway).

i don't know if i would necessarly want a low milage truck if it wasn't loaded up with options. That only figures out to about 500 miles a year, and it probably set for a long period of time. I think that setting is harder on a truck than putting 20000 a year on it.

Actually, I emailed the guy a bunch of times and asked lots of questions. Rust is basically nonexistant with only one small spot and no rot (I know, we've all heard this before...). The truck belonged to an elderly gentleman that drove it only marginally... take that for what its worth. Seems to be a real deal.

Actually, to me, the 292 is an attractive addition rather than the 350 that everyone seems to have. I like the step side only in the long bed variety... but that's just my opinion. And, I want a 4 speed. Realistically, this was an ideal truck for me - everything I want and nothing I don't. The only things that held me back were not being able to test drive it and/or see it in person prior to the sale and the relative price (don't just have that much cash lying around).

I think you answered your own question. It may have been the right truck for you which is the true measure of value. I've seen many trucks that have tens of thousands of dollars worth of modifications and "enhancements" that I wouldn't consider purchasing because they were not right for me.

I agree, the sight unseen purchase is scarey especially with a vehicle that has been sitting most of it's life!
