Throttle Linkage - V8 Swap
I swapped a 350 with Q-Jet carb in place of the I6 in my 64 C10. The factory throttle linkage doesn't seem to have enough travel to get wide open throttle. Am I missing something obvious, or have you guys who have made the same swap found an easy solution to this?

don't know how much this helps, but looking in my box-o-parts, I see at least 3 different lengths of throw arm in my collection............measurements are from the center of the bolt to the center of the hole for the carb linkage. can't say what fits what though, don't know what most of this came from! My truck's not here, so I can't see what came on my original 2-barrel 283, either. My guess is they varied not only by engine, but also by carburator? Since the Q-jet wasn't made yet, you probably just need to figure out what works, but I imagine you already know that! I'm sure you can do a better job than whoever cobbled "D" together! Ifigure I can take the pivot/mount piece to replace the busted one on "C". (I also notice that the accelerator pedal rod is at a different angle, may be a later year of truck? "B" seems to have the throw rod mounted in reverse of "A" & "C".

I am currently going through this. One thing I have noticed is the pedal set up on my 61 has a flat spot on the shaft pointing down. When I robbed a pedal from a 4,5,6 truck it has the flat spot pointing up.
I was able to reverse the bracket from a 6cyl. truck to use with a V-8 truck. I will probably lengthen mine by welding each of them together to get the height I need for a tall intake on a BBC install. |

When I swapped my '66 from a 250 6 to a 283 I welded in a section to the throttle arm on the firewall side to match the longer length of a factory V8 linkage, as 63's post above shows. I believe I changed it to 5.5" going from memory.

I swapped to a 350 with a Quadrajet also and initially used the V-8 bracket but didn't like how close it came to the HEI distributor wires. I put in a later 71/72 throttle pedal with a cable setup. There are a couple of "how to's" around here somewhere. It took a little effort but the result is a smooth pedal, full throttle and no worries about the lever & rod hitting wires. The downside is the pedal does not look stock - short pedal that doesn't hit the floor.

You will need to source one from a V8.

When I was trying to get full throttle out of my q-jet the amount of rotation needed caused it to get held up a little when first pushing on the throttle. I only got it to work well by installing a lokar peddle.
