Msd?
A buddy of mine told me i should get a MSD distributor. I don't know why? What does the MSD do better than the regular one? How will it help? Can anyone recommend which one to get?
Thanks. |
I wouldnt recommend a full new distributor. Thats overboard and not nessacary. A MSD super HEI kit would be a MUCH better choice IMO. It includes a 6a box and blaster 2 coil. The setup gives a much more powerfull spark, keeps the spark going past 4500rpm [typical fall off point of a stock HEI] and provides 2 sparks below 3000rpm. I love mine.

That sounds like it would be a good route. Can you feel a difference once installed, I mean is noticable(worth it)?
Also since we are talking some about RPMs, what is a good tach to get... I have been wanting one but wasn't sure if the ones at the part store are worth buying. Can you guys recomend one and where to buy? Thanks again. |
Yes it was noticable on my 78, but that motor is running 10.2:1 compression and 6000rpm on a reguler basis. If you have less then 9.5:1 compression and/or dont go above 4500rpm much, then I dont think you'll feel much. Its a great idea to upgrade if a stock part goes south and needs to be replaced anyways though.
As for tachs- I have a autometer PHANTOM line in my 78, its a sweet unit. Auotmeter is the most highly regarded line of gauges out right now. On my 79 I just used a cheapo unit from CHECKERS, its been real good to me so far. |
just do it:D
