1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

What's up everyone after long waiting the time has come where I am beginning to have me a project and it's a 1977 Chevy C10 with a small block 350. I've been wanting to restore a car or truck since I was about 10 and would spend time with a good friend and there car crew of classics, so it has begun for me to begin my project, and it's a father/son project. My plan is to make it a show quality truck, but also have enough power to get the tires smoking a little.

Attached is the beginning photo of Project 77 SharkBite

Awesome can't wait to see what yours looks like, this weekend I'm going to tear all the interior out and try to sand it all down and re paint the inside black, unless I can get some new carpet and such installed. I'm actually kind of taking the idea from one of the guys on the forum, I can't remember his full name but its something ranger.

But I finally have the dropped figured out on what i want to do.

So due to weather here in Texas I wasn't able to get the paint done all inside the cab, but I was able to get some work done on the truck, I tore out all the carpet to find that the heater core was left leaking for only who knows how long, so yes I found it rusting the passenger side floor, thankfully though there is only 1 tiny rust hole, but it looks like I'm going to learn how to do some welding and such and just replace a portion of the floorboard, and then listen to the advice of a friend and get some rust preventer or at least help slow it down but overall the cab itself is in great condition, minus the rust found going to try and get my tach all set up today, so hopefully some pics of that as well getting installed. and I will be posting pictures later in the day of the cab so you guys can check it out.

Yeah that's what a lot of people have told me, I totally forgot that this coming up weekend is labor day so I have a 4 day weekend if conditions are right might get the inside done and some more bolts for my seats. due to the fact I only have 2 that are holding it in haha, hopefully I don't slam the brakes too hard. I'm not sure if I put this in the forum here, but I also just replaced the power steering this weekend before last due to having no power steering on the way home, but I was losing fluid on the new pump, so tore it out again and tightened the bolts and now I'm good to go no more power steering fluid leak woohoo!!! :chevy:

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

So a quick update on the truck, nothing really special going on right now trying to save up some money to purchase some panels to replace some of the body panels and such that have rusted, but an accomplishment that was achieved is that thanks to a friend of mine thats on the website he helped install a Tach on the truck so now I can watch my RPM's and see my shift points plus it's something that gives it an apperance and looks cool too. Nothing will really be happening this weekend due to it being my birthday but I will hopefully post some pics of the Tach this weekend for y'all.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

Well just wanted to give you guys on a update on the truck, it seems as if I'll be taking a different direction with my truck, its now only going to getting interior/exterior, and just going to keep it plain jane stock but rebuild everything and get it cleaned up to make it strictly a show truck.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

Well a big decision on the truck has been made!!! I have officially found the rims I will be purchasing, and come this weekend I'm going to be getting them ordered they are some Chip Foose Legend Black rims I'll put a link with the reply let me know what you guys think.

I know its by no means perfect, but it takes out some of the orange and puts a different color it definitely makes the engine bay pop! hope you guys enjoy it.

Also forgot to add, I will be having some headers here for me, Monday or Tuesday so my truck will be getting a nice loud make over.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

So the newest and latest update is in the process of putting on new headers the truck has temporarily decided to stop working on me, which it's being looked into about being fixed, but looks like I'm going to take a different turn on my motor. My plans is my bank allows it aka my dad, as he's kind of funding the project and I'm putting the work looking at buying an LS1 block and build it the way I want it, and get some real manly manly power out of it but until the truck gets running its a waiting game

I think you made a good choice on the wheels! What sizes are you going with?

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

I hadn't updated that either that sucks.

Come to find out with the '77 having rotors instead of disc brakes, a good friend of mine that works at discount tire said that I would have to put a lot of work into getting them to be able to run a new modern style rim such as Chip Foose or any other rims. So the decision that's been made is to just run rally's, but might try to get a 15x10 for the back so I can have some wider tread. I was going to be running 20x8.5 front and 20x10 in rear to have a nice staggered look.

truckzilla 11-07-2012 04:19 PM

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

I'm obviously way confused; which is normal. I've always thought that rotors were part of having disc brakes. Your friend didn't happen to work at Quickee Mart before Discount Tires by any chance because even a vehicle with drum brakes should be able to run the Foose wheels assuming the back spacing was correct.

77ChevySharkBite 11-07-2012 04:26 PM

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

no he didn't, it dealt with the hubs and backspacing, thats why I couldn't run them I would of had to get custom rims made.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

Just curious. I'd hate for you to be forced to run stockish wheels when your heart really wants more.

At Discount Tire's website, they list these 20" wheels that will fit a '77 half ton Chevy.

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/sea...2758&rc=TSWINT

Look around and get some additional suggestions.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

No I understand the fact that I can get 20's but on discount I didn't like any of the styles they had and I know for a fact the person we dealt with wouldn't try to get me to buy something I don't need we've gone to the guy for over 17 years at least so I trust the guy

Here's a 20 x 10 Foose wheel that is supposed to fit a '77 C10.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

Yeah but see I don't like any of those rims, no offense of course because i appreciate you providing a link for it. And not try to nit pick but there "supposed" to fit, most of the foose rims are made for a modern car, they way to explain it the way my friend explained to me if I wanted to run Chip Foose rims that I wanted, I would have to put spacers on it, so that the hub of the truck would match up.

I understand the concern for wanting to be able to run the rims and tire combo I want, but I do want to keep the classic nature of the truck and not have to go spend $1,500 just to have a custom set of wheels made for it.

truckzilla 11-07-2012 06:26 PM

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

Amen on not wanting to spend a retarded amount of money of special rims! That dough could be used for a lot more good stuff! My '77 donor truck has the stock rallys on it now, but they've been repainted and now they look like crapola. I'm going to eventually have them powder coated and put them up for sale.
On my project, I'm using Chevy dually hubs so my choice of wheel size is extremely limited! You're lucky in that you have the standard 5 lug wheels to fit to.
Best of luck in finding just the right wheel and tire combo my friend!

77ChevySharkBite 11-07-2012 06:36 PM

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

Oh wow, yeah I'm sticking with my rally's going to get them powder coated along with the beauty rings to match the paint scheme of the truck. Going to try and find a 15x10 to run on the rear to have a decent amount of rubber on it. But sounds like you got quiet the match up for yourself too, so best of luck to you as well.

Re: 1977 Chevy C10 known as SharkBite

Well just found a bit of dreadful news on my truck, motor isn't a 350 it's a 305 and that most likely the truck jumped time so that's what was causing the issues it was causing so next week after next it will hopefully all be solved and running.
