alternator wiring

Hey guys

I'm using the psi harness for my swap. The harness has 1 wire
going to the alt connector, I guess controlled by the PCM.
Do I just run a 12v power wire from the back of the alt to either
the pos+ starter lug or pos+ side of battery? and I'm done?

thanks

Re: alternator wiring

Should work, Most LS1 F-bodies are wired that way.

I'm running it to the starter. Just now putting the finishing touches on the swap. I'm ready to drive this thing already!!

Re: alternator wiring

I would use at least a 10 gauge wire for it too.

I too have the PSI harness. How did you all wire the power to the cab? The voltage regulator goes away and leaves a brown and red wire. The red wire is a branch off of the red wire that goes to the back of the Alt, so I figure I can delete it. But what do I do with the brown wire?

The brown wire is called the "Field" wire, It's no longer needed.

I've got the psi harness too. It came with a 4 pire plug with only 1 wire in it. Is this the alternator plug? I have a alternator that has a 2 wire plug and a post for positive on the back Can I change the connector

That is the alternator plug, it is for the factory LS alternator. I am not sure which alternator you have, but I am sure Jon at PSI will be happy to help you. Give him a shout, jvezzosi@psiconversion.com.

I found out I have a LS truck alternator I think one wire is for the exciter and one for the gauge. I got the plug from my factory harness and used 1 of the wires for the exciter Hopefully it will be running in the next week and Ill see if it charges

I just want to clarify before I make an assumption and then a mistake

You reused the original red wire going to the back of the alternator and then just removed all 4 branch wires going to the old regulator? The original wire the went to the back of the old alt. was basically a wore that ran back to the junction block on the passenger fender across the core support?

Re: alternator wiring

Yep, basically I ended up with the red wire coming off the alternator to the junction where the regulator was then splitting off with one side going to the firewall and the other going to the positive side of the battery (through the junction block on the fender).
