Bolt on Rack and pinion
 

Thought I would share for those that do not know. This kit is made by unisteer and is a true bolt on kit requiring no drilling! The product info is a little behind but the kit is now avail to fit 67-72 chevy trucks. They use the existing tie rod ends. Its about time they made one,flaming river has had a kit but its pricey and no limit has a kit but you have to use after market tubular control arms with it.

i am just finishing up installing the no limit rack kit on my truck. I used stock control arms. The input shaft and sway bar (aftermarket) took a bit of work but everything else bolts up nice.

I like this kit because it is appears to be true bolt on... Not knocking the no limit kit but its quite a bit more work to install it over this one from what I have seen. I have ordered one and will post install pics when I get it.

The more options for good aftermarket parts the better,I like no limits rack and pinion but your right im lazy that looks like more work then i wanna do lol.The last rack and pinion i put on was my mustang it was a bolt in kit didn't take me more then a hour.

Please post pics, I'm interested to see. The no limit kit was a fair amount of work but my truck is not a daily driver so if it's in pieces for a week (or two) while I chip away at projects I don't mind. I quite enjoy it.

I quite enjoy working and chipping away at it myself.... I like the idea of being able to unbolt and return to original state if needed, but that is just me.

You should start a thread showing some pics of your no limit install. I am sure some would love to see the progress. I will be looking to install mine in the next couple of weeks.

Just to be clear, our No Limit C10 rack and pinion will work with stock lower arms on 63-72 trucks. For the 73-87, tubular lowers are required. We recomend Porterbuilt Forward Lower arms. The problem is with the huge bushing and stamped arm on the stocker, there is no room for the rack. Swapping to the tubular arm also gives you a bit more ground clearance.

The Rack kit came from unisteer yesterday... got started this afternoon. Got the rack bolted up. I simply removed the steering box, idler arm, and crosslink. The rack kit came assembled and bolts right in place of the steering box and idler arm..... so far no holes to drill and as you can see from the pics plenty of room on the lower control arms. It is still early but I am impressed with the fit so far.. I am installing this on an ls equipped truck so I am sure the steering shafts will require some work...... only time will tell.... Keep us posted I kept hoping somebody would post up some driving experiences on a rack and pinion any version but nobody seems to have one completed and want to give any input. This sounds like a great upgrade as I have done several to my truck but the upfront costs have limited me since I have to purchase it all at once.
so far it looks good. Mine is ls equiped also

no worries, I understand on the house stuff. This will get done when you get done. I am just hopeful to hear some real world thoughts on how the rack and pinion stuff does on these trucks.
There seems to be alot of hype but I had not heard much input from an end user.

I finished my install yesterday..... I left the camera at the shop so it my be later in the week on pics. I installed this kit with an ls swap so the upper shaft needed to be a little longer. I called unisteer and they sent one right out. The only other modification I had to do was cut the shaft support bracket, reposition to clear headers and reweld. That way I could bolt it to the top of the motor mount just like they intended. I can return the truck back to original at any time by simply bolting the old stuff back on. The steering is very nice with a new car feel, at least in the short trip around the block I took. By far the easiest "bolt on kit" I have done on these old trucks

I also would like to know how this does after you put a few miles on it. I plan on in-stalling one on my 67 soon.

I glanced at the website, I couldn't find anything that indicates which waterpump is required.

Gregg, I looked thru the instructions (from the link posted above) and it has a picture of the power steering pump being mounted to the block. In the picture, the water pump looks to be a short version. It does not say either way in the instructions though....

I would suspect that you could get the power steering mounts to fit either the short or long water pump...

Do you think that this mounting kit and rack and pinion would clear the bushing on the lower control arm if the lower arms where from a 73-87 C10? I ask because the bushings are much larger in diameter and I know the rack kit from No Limit does not clear them....

Yes I beleive it would..... the bolt pattern for the idler may be different and may require some drilling but I dont see an issue otherwise
