Reproduction Fenders
 

I just inherited a new project that my dad never finished. It's a 65 short step with a rebuilt 230 I6 which was completely overhauled some years ago and has been sitting in the bed. I'm going to be putting it together to get it running first. My next step is to find all 4 fenders. The fronts have the typical rust on the lower rear plus some above the wheel on the lip. THe stepside fenders have a good amount of rust through on the front where they meet the step.

I know all these fenders are available in steel or fiberglass. My question is are the repro steel fenders worth what they're asking? If I look hard enough I could probably find some better old stepside fenders but the fronts are near impossible to find without rust. Any thoughts? Thanks!

just buy the patch panels and only use what you need, seems like too many people have had issues .. also depends on if you are doing it just to drive or if you want a show truck .. I have aftermarket fenders on mine and they fit fair ,I did have to elongate the holes, but the ones I had were toast in the front so they were too far gone....

It is going to be more of a driver but I do want it to look clean. I'm not going to be real picky about this truck though because I intend to to all the work myself and learn as I go.

Do you know how much coverage you get with the lower rear patch panel for the front fender? It's hard to tell from the pics. I mean like how many inches from the bottom up? Also, how hard is it to replace the rear brace?

Never mind, I found the answer to my own question. Looks like they are 12".

I need to go do some measuring on the truck. That might cover the front. Now for the rear stepside fenders I might have to get creative with some raw sheet metal. This project is either going to make or break me in the metal fabrication department. LOL.

I looked at myfenders again and they are too far gone. They are rusted on top of the wheel area as well as the lower front a bit. Lets see if i can post some pics.

Start checking junk yards, You could repair that front fender with a patch panel i think. New Mexico? Should be able to find some nice metal somewhere in that dry state.

The leftis worse butthe pic wouldnt load gonna get her running first the start on the body repairs
