Drive by cable "not" check this out
 

I saw this yesterday at a car show. This car was actually built by a good friend of mine. The motor was actually a hemi take out of a dodge truck. The car was mid fifties Plymouth I think. I know this is a Chevy thread but could give us swappers some othe ideas to retain our stock throttle pedals but still use DBW. As you can see the dbw pedal was laid horizontally and the foot part was cut and he used a regular street rod style pedal with cable to attach to the pedal arm. It works perfect. What really impressed me about this was the pedal assembly didnt look out of place on the engine. Man this has really got me thinking about My next dbw swap. Interesting idea, I can see it being useful for someone trying to retain a bone stock interior, or in a case where the gas pedal would really stick out.

I'd have a couple safety/function concerns tho. With it mounted facing up, I'd think that the pedal would have a tendancy to "jump" a little over rough surfaces or bumps...those dbw pedals are super touchy, but maybe if they increased the spring tension it wouldn't be a concern. The other would be that if the retention spring were to fail, the engine would run WOT.

I like the thought tho, could be epspecially cool is something with NO legroom for the potentiometer assembly.

Maybe a return spring would help for safety reasons.

A neat idea for sure! You can use the same idea inside the truck.

I personally wouldnt put the APPS on top of the engine, The heat & vibration isnt good on them. Cummins ISB 5.9L's in Dodge trucks have the APPS mounted to the engine & go out alot more than one mounted inside the truck.

I've seen this done before, or at least something similar. They basically did the same thing, but mounted it above the stock pedal and tied the two together with a custom linkage.

great idea. I'd think the return spring on the pedal would be enough if the cable is working smoothly (especially if there's a return spring on the cab pedal assembly)... tho I'd want to have another spring in the picture, attached to that cable mounting plate and the DBW pedal arm
