2 Attachment(s)
so yesterday i took apart my engine inline 6 on a 82 checy custom deluxe
i took the carb out and all hoses and gas lines, now i need a diagram to put all back together!!! anyone??? also i bought a chromed valve cover and when i took out the old one i saw that it has 2 big filters that go beside the carb, u can see in picture,, what are those what do they do, and what can i replace them with?? since my chrome valve cover didnt came with those filters,.. I REALLY NEED HELP TO PUT IT BACK TOGETHER SO SHOW ME SOME DIAGRAMS OR AT LEAST SOME PICS OF UR INLINE 6,, THANKSSSS |
Re: question about inline 6!!
There should be a sticker on the rad support that shows the routing of all the vacuum lines. As far as the valve cover it's made like that to accommodate all the emissions tubes. I don't know if you'll find an aftermarket one that retains all the emissions components.

Re: question about inline 6!!
thank u i am more worried about the valve cover now

Re: question about inline 6!!
On mine I removed all the vacuum lines except for the ones for the charcoal canister and distributor. As far as the filters I would think you could do without them. My '84 didn't have them. I installed new grommets and put a push in breather in the spot where the PCV valve goes and hooked up the hose that goes to the air cleaner to the front one.
I didn't have the push in breather installed in this picture but you can see where the rear grommet is where I put it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...t/101_1333.jpg |

Re: question about inline 6!!
First you need to understand what you have. Being an 82, this is an 'integral head' motor. That means the head and intake, and the top of the exhaust manifold, are all one casting. This came out in the late 70's, 74ish in cars and a little later in trucks. As an 82 you can see that it has a rectangle carb opening, it uses a 2 barrell carb while everything before 1980 or so uses a one barrell.
The 'filters' are actual boxes to collect oil vapors to be fed back into the engine, an attempt to decrease the emissions. Here's the bad news. Almost noe of the aftrmarket parts, other than side covers and cams, will fit the motor. In your case, that means your chrome valve cover. Check the shape of the gasket on the head and the cover and you'll find they don't match. Your best bet it to clean it and pint it the color of your choice (mine' metallic cherry ). |
Re: question about inline 6!!
I have a 1980 california version which I've found is the same as a 49 state version of the later models. I'll see if I can get a pic if the hose diagram. As for the pulse air injection please don't damage any of those tubes as they may not be available again new. The pulse air system injects air over the exhaust to reduce Nox emisions like an air pump. This design does not rob horse power so don't think your going to gain any.
Mexlokote What I would like to know is what auto trans do you have on your 82? Does your glovebox still have the equipment take on it? |

Re: question about inline 6!!
Is it a 4 speed auto (700R4) or a tree speed (Turbo 350)?
|
Re: question about inline 6!!
i think its the 4 speed auto
|
Re: question about inline 6!!
Perfect. I'd sure apreciate a pic or two of your carb around where the throttl linkage hooks up. I wanted to see if it was the same as mine with the TH350 trans. I'll take pick of the emissions diagram for you and any thing else you need. Mine is dead stock

Re: question about inline 6!!
Unless it's had a trans swap it will be a TH350C. Gm never put a 4 speed auto behind a 250. And the 700R4 was not available in 1982.
My 1984 chassis has the 250/TH350C combo. |
