Where does this wire go?

1 Attachment(s)
I own a 1970 C-10. 350, automatic with Air.

I was replacing the vacuum lines today and found this wire behind the engine. I don't think that I knocked it off of anything but could have when replacing the tranny line. The air compressor is not installed. The connector on the wire looks like it goes to the compressor but there is a similar wire already in the position of the compressor...tied off on a high pressure hose. That makes me think this wire is for something else. would it go to the transmission? If so where? The connector is melted but will still work. I laid it on the exhaust manifold in this photo.

Thanks

What color is the wire at the connector and size? I'm guessing 18 ga. dark green or a 20 ga. dark blue.

II Looks like and is in the right position to be connected to the temp gauge sending unit. The sending unit is about 2/3 of the way back on the passenger side of the engine. Is yours connected?

It is 2 wires, probably 12 gauge, one blue the other black. goes into the wire loom on the firewall.

I thought that the temp sending unit was up front on the drivers side...or is that oil? It's been so long since I've worked on a car, I can't remember what I should know.

Re: Where does this wire go?

The TCS equipped trucks had a temp sender on rear pass side to allow vacuum advance after the engine is up to operating temp.
