5.3 to 6.0 how hard is it.
WwMy budy has a 2002 chevy z71 ex-cab. The motor is a 5.3l and the trans is a 4l60e. The motor in his truck has a knock in it. I'm fairly certain that it has thrown a rod. Not a hard fix but it is time consuming. He has a 2001 chevy 2500 ex-cab 4x4 in his back lot that had been rolled. The motor and trans are in mint condition. The motor is the 6.0l and the trans is the 4l80e. He wants to know how hard it would be just to swap the motor in. I told him I think the motor plugs would be fine but the trans plugs I had no clue. If anybody knows anything your info would be greatly apreceated.

There's an LSx subforum if you check the site, in the General section.

Re: 5.3 to 6.0 how hard is it.
All of the sensors etc should be the same, and since the ECM is already for a v8/auto combo it can be re-used. You'll need to wire in the second VSS sensor for the 4l80e, and have the tuner set the program up for the fuel requirements of the 6L, as well as the shift points and setting for the 4l80e.
Since it was already an ls-based trucks, this is barely a swap, just a repair :) |
Re: 5.3 to 6.0 how hard is it.
The Trans crossmember mod is going to be the hardest part, Cant just slide it back.
Use the engine harness, PCM & BCM from the 2500, Plug & Play no mods required. |
