Best way to install 6" c notch

Ok I got a 86 suburban an I have a 6" c notch what is the best way about installing it in my sub I have already removed a section of floor above the axel so notches fit any suggestions welcome will post pics in morning

Are you talking about a bolt-in 2.5" c-notch?
Are a larger 8"-12" step notch?
