How do I remove my dash bezel?
I took all the screws out, and the bottom is loose. But the top of the bezel seems to be catching on something. Do I need to unhook something else?
Thanks |
the chrome bexels around the lights and wiper have to come off. sticl some neddle nose pliers in the flat spots and spin them off just like a screw. -kyle

need to unhook the oil psi switch, wiper knob, light switch along with the chrome rings around them, and the speedo cable
|
Don't just keep pulling like me... take of the speedo cable and the oil pressure line.
|
don't forget the wires that plug into the back

a few things to get caught up on... the chrome bezels around washer and lights the speedo cable the oil pressure cable/line(the one I forgot about twice!)[also did you know that the 'U' in the word 'custom' from the side badging will work as a wrench to get the oil p line unscrewed?!] the steering column retainer thing (under column) there's something else but I can't think of it now... good luck. |
Thanks. I want to take it off and try to repaint it myself.

I did this just this weekend for the first time. These guys know what they're talking about. You also must remove the headlight knob/shaft before you can remove the headlight switch bezel. SOmething I don't know if I would have thought about if I hadn't read on this board, is to disconnect the neg. post on the battery before doing all of this or your headlights will be on while your doing the bezel removal. To do this reach up behind the dash and feel for a button on top of the headlight switch. Push this down as you remove the knob/shaft. Then you can unscrew the bezel. On mine there was also a small light bulb assembly with a wire going to it that ended in a metal piece....not sure what that is but it's easy to remove. Also, once everything is loose you have to tilt the dash bezel one way or the other(top back/bottom out or visa versa). It took me a couple of times of tilting (and holding my mouth right as my dad used to say), but came out easily.

Oh yeah, if you have a stock tach in there (or an aftermarket one in the tach hole for that matter) you'll need to drop the column a little.
|
Thanks everybody. Now I just need a spare second or two.
|
FIRST YOU NEED TO DROP THE COLUMN THEN YOU NEED TO GET A FOUR POUND HAMMER THEN COMMENCE TO BEATING. THAT SEEMS TO BE THE EASIEST WAY BUT THE REINSTALLATION REALLY STINKS.
