Shipping question
 

I have a few parts I want to list for sale, but I want to make sure that I can provide prompt shipping before I offer them up. I don't really want to mess with shipping the sheet metal stuff, but on items like door panels, how is everyone shipping those? Just a big box with packing material through UPS, or does the USPS have flat rate boxes that are large enough?

I would just get a big box and pack it well. I would use fedex and if you have an account its cheaper also.

From my experiences with FedEX and UPS they have actual weights they use and if it is a large item such as a door, they go off of the size and ship it at a higher weight, because it is an oversize item. Maybe there are some shipping experts in the forum that could provide better info on how to ship the larger items.

www.ups.com and www.fedex.com both have shipping calculators as to where you type in the weight and dimensions and it will "estimate" shipping charges. Best bet is to make the box as small as possible. Just like Jdubs said the bigger the box then sometimes will raise the charges and put it in a oversize category.

I use USPS a lot and like they have already said make the box as small as possible but make sure and pack it good. If that takes a larger box then use it. I work at a repair shop so I get my boxes from work. Door panels fit well in most radiator boxes. I have boxes stacked around because I grab them before they head to the dumpster. For larger items, body shops usually have boxes they are getting rid of. The most cost effective way to ship large items (sheet metal, grilles, ect.) is Greyhound Package Express if you have a station close to you. They have a shipping calculator on their site. It is terminal to terminal and not door to door like UPS and Fed Ex.

Me three. I use them the most.
