76 4x4 chevy

So I'm in the market for a truck. Found a 76 4x4. I absolutely love it! But it has the transfer case that is 4 wheel drive at all times! I don't want 4 wheel drive all the time. Plan on making a daily driver. What do I have to do to make it shift out to 2 wheel drive. Change transfer cases? Please help

It's not as bad as it sounds. There's a differential in the transfer case that transmits power to both front and rear axles, but lets them run at different speeds so you don't get binding on pavement. Think of it as all wheel drive. GM designed these trucks for the street and countless numbers of them have been street driven with this transfer case for a long time now.

When you get in the dirt, you lock the differential in the transfer case and then the front and rear axles are locked together for true 4x4.

There are some kits to remove the differential and make it a part time case, or you can switch to an NP205.

Look up a part-time kit for an NP203. That and a set of lockout style hubs will have you fixed up.

Yep I was gonna say either do that or go hunting for a NP205 t-case. Got any pictures of this truck yet? Sounds like a cool ride :metal:
