1964 Suburban 4x4 springs

Installing a 14 bolt rear axle and possibly add 2'' - 3'' of lift. Should I keep the stock "chunk of steel" between the axle and springs or get rid of it and get the correct height completely with new springs?

What is the proper way to remove the springs from the hangers?

The "chunk of steel" I'm referring to is a stock item, not a "lift" block.

Are you talking about this "chunk of steel"?

This is stock in my GMC.

Yes, that is the piece. If I am installing new springs with 3'' lift maximum or at stock height, would you recommend keeping that piece? I realize it is for the bump stop.

I can't recommend keeping it or not, was just trying to give someone else a reference to be able to answer your question. Sorry!

Good Luck!

I appreciate the help. I asked the same question on the stovebolt site also. I'd just like to make sure I'm not doing something to jeopordize safety by eliminating that piece.
