Im moving to Texas
We should close on our house this Friday. Then I'll drive a Penske truck to Keller Texas. Then fly back to Joliet, Il. and drive the 87 to Keller. Then fly back to Joliet ,and drive the Dodge van to Keller. I hate highway driving. I'll be off the net for a while. You all take care. By.

Shout out from the small town of Gainesville, TX... 'bout an hour north of Keller. I bought my current square from a guy that lived in Keller. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Im moving to Texas
Hope all goes well. Illinois to the Dallas/Fort Worth area isn't all that far to drive. Shouldn't be bad, and plenty of site seeing. I've been through Texas several times driving back and forth when we moved from Ohio to Arizona, love driving. Can't get me out of the car, I just want to go go go

Re: Im moving to Texas
Bad news....the Ft. Worth/Dallas metro has the most stringent emissions in the state. Your truck will require all factory emission equipment. Any 84 and later will require cats.
Hook it up!! Fall gathering dates. Start a list. I don't mind driving to the metro. |

Re: Im moving to Texas
Depends on the GVW whether you need cats on a truck or not. In the 70's and into the 80's the EPA only required cats on anything below 7,000 GVW so the general didn't build them with cats when over that GVW.
So your 1 ton pickups (and possibly some 3/4 tons) of that era never had them and shouldn't be enforced by any state if not OEM equipped. Neither my 77 or my current 79 454 pickups had cats from the factory. They did have smog pumps and EGR's however, but not cats. |
Re: Im moving to Texas
I thought TX exempted emissions on 25year old and older vehicles with the exception of 84 and newer required cats?

Re: Im moving to Texas
...or simply more a little further north into Cooke County, TX. No emission checks or worries here. Simply pull into the bay, flash the lights and honk the horn and your good for another year! Haha...

My vote is to move to a county that doesn't have it. That's what I did. |
Re: Im moving to Texas
Ok, your original post says 87. It's a 77 don't sweat it. I drive an 83 in Austin with the same emission testing as Ft.Worth/Dallas, Houston, El Paso, and San Antonio. I run no cats and no emissions. Only a PVC. Inspection is only $14.50. Emission inspection adds up to $28.50 for all other vehicles. If the inspector is picky, yes 84 and later need cats.
