Backspacing question

Please help. With a wheel 22x10 in the front and 22x12 rear with backspacing 4.5 how much modifications are needed to "tuck" the wheels with airbags? Just need to know how much I'm gonna have to modify. *Pics of wheels below*

Re: Backspacing question

What year is your truck? 69? The reason I'm asking is the rear end housing in the 67, 68 and some early 69 trucks was slightly more narrow than the later 69+ trucks.

With a 22x12 and 4.5" backspacing that puts around 7.5 (or more) to the outside of the wheel.

Usually people will run 20x10 (or 22, whatever ..) with 5"BS on an early housing. This will change to 5.5" BS on a late housing. (69 model year forward)

In short, what I'm saying is I don't think your wheels will work without narrowing the rear end, sectioning / widening the rear wheel tubs and adjustments to the bed floor to accomodate. If you're bagging it / lifting the bed floor this may not be a problem but I'm thinking on a factory length rear end your wheels are too wide.

Just my .02

I think you will have to do A LOT of modifying to get the 10's w/ 4.5" backspace to work on the front. That will will stick way out, and would probably have to go with narrowed arms and a dropmember which will narrow the track width as well.

Would be killer if / when you get it to work though!

Can't say about the fronts but this will help with the rears. I looked at keeping the stock axle or narrowing the axle by 3 inches a side. Eventually kept the stock axle and installed narrowed fleetside finner fenders in the bed of my 67 stepside. The photo's are from a 67 (not mine) that was featured here several years ago called "The Silver Bullet" which I copied when it was time to do the rears on mine. You will have to remove the bumpstops for the rear axle to do this.

My truck is a 72 I guess when I bring the wheels to the body shop we'll see what we have to do to get these to work:c2:

Any good photos of the 12" wides on back? Most I find for 8 lugs are no more than 5" backspacing unfortunately.....
