Restoring ?'s for polish/ reanodizing a 64-66 grille
I have been doing some searching on nos 64-66 aluminum grilles in the last 12 months and the later ones made by GM in the later 80's and 90's really are not that great. I know I personally had my local GM dealer order in 3 or 4 and finally settled on one back in those days for a frame up restoration I had at the time. I recently talked to one friend who has been in the nos parts business and has restored all sorts of top flight GM pickups and has 2 nos ones he offered me. Problem is he said none of these GM stampings would do justice on a frame up restored truck. He personally several years ago took one of his nos grilles and had it stripped, polished scratches out, repaired flaws and ripples, and correct reanodizing done to it. The place that did it for him has gone out of business now. He recommended that most will require that type of work as GM had huge scratched in the bar especially along the top of the CHEVROLET bar.
Question 1: Has others seen this in their NOS grille shells? Question 2: Anyone have experience or recommends a polisher capable of correctly stripping, polishing, and then applying the correct reanodizing of the grille? Thanks, Mark |

I don't know if he would be interested in doing a grill, but Al Reed Polishing in Anaheim CA would be one to check with. He's well known for restoring (polishing/anodizing) Porsche Fuchs wheels. He may be able to restore your grill, or know somebody that's able.
He doesn't have a website, but here's his contact info. https://plus.google.com/117597557713...ut?gl=us&hl=en Here's a wheel restored by Al Reed. http://www.rebelracingproducts.com/images/1122.jpg Another guy that restores anodized Porsche wheels is Harvey Weidman. I've read reviews that say Harvey is the guy to go to if you want your Fuchs anodized. these guys are frequently featured in car magazines restoring various aluminum parts and grills. Now, apparently that business has ceased but the former owner has the website below. Good luck. http://www.kingoftrim.com/Restorations.html |
